Apparently so. But being a pavement driver, I have no trouble with these tires. The load capacity of the RT is 98, or 1653 lbs per tire. Total carrying capacity of an equally distributed load on four tires is 6612 lbs. My own van has a zero fuel weight of 3640 lbs. I can add 2926 lbs to my vehicle before reaching the weight limits on those tires. There is no way I will ever haul that big a load on those tires. The only issue I might have with these tires is the sidewall construction. The tires have twin steel belts, and a polyester cord body. The sidewalls are not that stiff, so there is curvature out beyond the rim with the tire on the road. On gravel roads - especially like driving to and from Alaska - it would be easy to get a rock through the sidewall, especially if one was not "on it" keeping the tires up to pressure, etc. John John Rodgers Clayartist and Moldmaker 88'GL VW Bus Driver Chelsea, AL Http://www.moldhaus.com On 10/11/2011 8:39 AM, Dave Mcneely wrote: > Inadequate load capacity, not a D or even C range tire: > > http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+RT
