Mentions of camping, and camping weather, heaters and how to keep warm -
prompted me to look at a calendar for the far north. It appears that in
Nome Alaska on Frydaye, Dec 16 - the sun will set at 15:59 (24 hr time)
and stay below the horizon  until it rises again on Wed, Dec 21 at 11:58
(24 hr time). It only gains one minute that first day.

Glad it doesn't get dark and stay that way down here.
