And since I only carry the "short" table with me because
I travel alone, but with a roll-up camp table just-in-case,

By the way, I carry Jonce Francher's windshield/
side-window cover, rolled up in its carry-bag, under that
table. I'm pretty sure that helps keep the table stable as
it is pressured downward. That cover of Jonce's is a
great device.
