I was still getting 28-30 mpg (US) with my Thule Classic on the roof until the left rear suspension decided to no longer have any connection to the body. 1987 Syncro Westy TDI, 700,000 km. FULL Syncro, none of that goofy crap or disconnects. VC still working fine, BTW. ;-) Karl
