I used a bungee cork to maintain 4th gear in my Squareback.  Worked for a
few months.

|transmission mount is worn, and moving with the torque, it can
|cause the transmission to jump out of gear! I had a friend who
|road with a "bungee cord" hooked to the shifter & hand brake
|mount. It worked for the short term.
