I had a small (27 ft.)motor home once with the Ford 460. It was 1992, 4
speed overdrive. You couldn't bring gas fast enough as it only had a 35
gallon tank. 7-7.5 was best highway. The next one had the Ford 6.8L V-10. It
was a 34 foot and weighed almost 17,000 pounds empty. Without towing it
would do a solid 8.5 highway, 7.5 pulling the Syncro Westy. Now I have the
39 foot with the Cat C-7. It used to do 8.5 until they changed the fuel (
ultra-low sulphur) in 2006 for the 2007 model year engines. Now I get just
under 8 (7.8 last two Florida trips).

We once had Identical f350 dialogs other than 460ci gasser and the other
7.3L powerstroke empty the gasser got 12-13 mpg the diesel 16mpg avg of both
with the same load the gasser dropped to 6 mpg and needed downshifting on a
long hill the diesel was getting 12mpg and not needing to downshift on the
same hill there are advantages of a turbo diesel, not as much of mpg loss
with heavier loads and less downshifts!!
