I way that I lowered my air cooled Vanagon engine, was pipe in engine compartment, straps are attached to the engine mounting barwrap around the pipe.  Floor jack on tranny, lower the unit (does take 2-3 people) onto plywood on pvc pipe rollersThis way you do not have to put the van sky-high in the air and the engine and tranny roll easy on the plywood/roller set-upJohn
