Subject:Re: Alternator belt burning up?

I had a belt problem on my diesel jetta that drove me crazy trying to
track it down (actually I had half a dozen belt problems with that
car, but this one was chewing up alternator belts overnight). It turns
out that there was a lip of sharp metal inside one of the pulleys. It
must have had something caught in there at some point. Anyway, it was
sharp as a razor and if I had not swapped it out and had it in my
hands in strong daylight, I would never have noticed it.
