Stand near the motor with the hatch open and listen while someone else hits the throttle. I suspect you will see and/or hear two things. The belt will jump and you may hear a short squeal or other noise you don't recognize. If the belt jumps and you hear a short squeal then go buy a good belt, from NAPPA if you can't buy one from VW. But don't install one from advance auto or auto zone. The good belts from Oreilly are good but you need to ask the guy at the parts counter if they stock a good one. A good auto parts store belt should cost you at least $14.00, maybe more. It spins very freely without belt on it,It will spin for 2-3+ seconds. Don't know if its caused by a heavy load when charging?? After start up I hit the throttle for a second to engage charging it bogs the motor a touch? Also, you might have a pulley alignment problem but if it's been running fine this is not likely.
