FWIW, the ISV control unit on my 1988 Canadian Westy was lying loose behind
tail light. This vehicle has low miles.

Here's an image from thesamba showing what is likely the ISV bracket. This
is a 1988 Canadian Syncro:

Assuming rain could get blown into area behind tail light, IMO, keeping
this control unit "high and dry" is a priority. (my recent foray into WBX
world tells me that a "rebuilt" control unit is relatively expensive)

If one made a bracket to fit around the ISV control unit and fastened all
to the sheet metal behind tail light, would this be sufficient? Maybe make
bracket out of stainless steel or some other corrosion resistant metal?
Or.....

Move the ISV control unit to a spot on engine bay? The wiring harness to it
is long enough. Maybe put it in a nice sealed plastic box like the fuel
pump and ECU relay are?
