'larger hose' ...? I just had an 84 tank in and out .. and have done many 2WD vanagon fuel tanks. normally I don't think there any 'large hoses.' What is stock is a plastic line across the top, joining the plastic gizmo's that plug into the grommets in top of the tank. That cross-over vent/ evap line is about 5/8ths inch in diameter. the plastic plug-in pieces often break. there is also the largish plastic line coming down from the top of the filler neck . other than that there are 4 small hoses ..two per side, on top. and the hoses on the bottom of course ..the two at the aft edges. also ..curious about this later style filler with a ball something in it ( which I take to be for keeping fuel in the tank if the van flips ) ... I have never had any problem getting fuel into the tank at the filler neck, but get the impression that maybe you have, based on a post of yours . ??? thanx, Scott On 5/23/2012 5:09 PM, Bryan Feddish wrote: > So I took the tank out again and replaced the grommets and gas lines. I found a bad leak in one of the larger hoses http://www.feddishbasses.com/fillertube.html which was probably causing the really bad gas smell from the last 2 or so weeks. The problem is I still smell gas. I DID fill the tank until it was completely full so I am really hoping that by burning off a gallon or two will cure that. If not I’m really close to repairing the gas leak with a match......* > > grrrrr > > Bryan > > * disclaimer, I’ve been breathing gas fumes in 88 degree heat for 6 hours... >
