Not to bash the vendor, but it sounds a little flakey to reuse the airflow meter with the door blocked open. Maybe that's to preserve the "OE" look. The air temp sensor is reused and they include a MAP sensor. So this looks like a speed density system. Nothing wrong with that, though most modern setups use a MAF. And the idle control unit is eliminated? What controls the air bypass? Or maybe the new system just bumps the timing to compensate. For $1500 doesn't sound too bad if its plug-n-play. New wiring is definitely a plus as these vans get older. OTOH you could build your own for quite a bit less, but of course with much more time invested. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of pickle vanagon Sent: Friday, May 25, 2012 5:33 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Why no bolt-on HP upgrades to the 2.1 WBX? I found this: http://www.gowesty.com/library_article.php?id=1532 For some reason when they say it it sounds less exciting than when Jim was discussing a similar possibility.
