I can't answer that but they do seem to have a fashion cachet in certain
circles.

My son was over yesterday, helping re-bleed the brakes and replace the
DOT3 fluid we put in a few weeks ago with DOT4 fluid -- higher boiling
point, it says here -- and he said that I should remove the plastic hub
caps from my stock 14'' steel wheels because black steel wheels are the
preferred look now among his crowd of off-roaders.

"Besides," he said, "it's more 'Road Warrior' that way."
