I recall an oldCar and Driver test of a Dodge police car with steelies and the small "dog dish" hubcaps, a look they described as more "butch" than full wheel covers. When we bought our '87 two of the plastic wheel covers were cracked/broken so Santa brought me the small caps from Go Westy that year. Butch it is. Stephen --- On Mon, 6/4/12, Rocket J Squirrel <camping.elliott@GMAIL.COM> wrote: From: Rocket J Squirrel <camping.elliott@GMAIL.COM> Subject: Re: Vanagon Alloy wheels $300 To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Date: Monday, June 4, 2012, 12:23 PM On 06/03/2012 08:31 PM, JRodgers wrote: > Do steelies bring a better price? I can't answer that but they do seem to have a fashion cachet in certain circles. My son was over yesterday, helping re-bleed the brakes and replace the DOT3 fluid we put in a few weeks ago with DOT4 fluid -- higher boiling point, it says here -- and he said that I should remove the plastic hub caps from my stock 14'' steel wheels because black steel wheels are the preferred look now among his crowd of off-roaders. "Besides," he said, "it's more 'Road Warrior' that way." -- Jack "Rocket j Squirrel" Elliott 1984 Westfalia, auto trans, Bend, Ore.
