It's an 87 van , so if the starter is original as suspected, it's 25 years old, and has 200K miles on it. A good Borsh Rebuild SR401X ( the only kind I ever get ) costs about the equivalent of 4 tanks of gas, plus turn in your old one for a core. I'd hardly call that expensive after the incredible service it's delivered.. for 25 years no less ! Additionally, some rebuilder shops will charge as little as just over a hundred dollars to go through it, at least in Oregon where I am. I think it's due ....to be replaced ! lol. Check the bushing in the bell housing too, ( assuming it's a manual trans ) and the flywheel teeth also, whether auto trans or manual. Bottom line, it's done it's job well all this time ...and it's due to be retired. Scott www.turbovans.com
