hi.. that's stock - Fuel filter is mounted behind sort of a 'shock tower' looking column in the left rear wheel well. It's not as hard as it looks ... undo two 10mm hex head screws..then pull the filter out soft of, then undo lines. it would be a little tricky and maybe possible to attach new hose to the old, then pull new in by pulling old hose out , lubricated with something too, like WD-40. I have seen a fuel filter mounted forward on a frame rail on the left side , on a syncro, similar to how the fuel pump and fuel filter are mounted on a frame rail on the right side, on a 2WD vanagon. I have seen a subaru legacy fuel filter - a nice handy little unit , mounted in the engine compartment on a syncro ... like it is on a legacy car , though if 'feels better ' to not have a fuel filter in the engine compartment on a syncro. yes, both feed and return line run together on a syncro ..sneaking under the firewall heading for the left side of thing under there. removing the gas tank is a big job .. and turns into a restoration project most of the time, in my world anyway. scott www.turbovans.com On 8/1/2012 1:25 PM, Liberte, Joel wrote: > Questions more out of curiousity, had ordered the new gas lines from GoWesty and went to install them today, appears like they have already been replaced as the plastic part going through the firewall has been removed. The interesting part is that the input line is running out the firewall beside the return line that runs from the T joint, no where near where we expected the gas line to actually be running, is that normal? > > Also appears the gas filter is behind a column behind the rear tire drivers side, is that where it comes from the factory? Heck of a place to try and get at and the only way to change those lines appears to involve removing the gas tank itself. > > Joel L >
