The hinge support becomes a limiting factor for what size spare can get under there regardless of what modifications you make to the tray or latch. A 215 wide/27” diameter becomes a difficult limit both for diameter and width. Since you only have a 2WD tire matching for a spare is not needed. If going with the 225/55-17 tire I recommended a 195 or 205-14 on an alloy wheel will make a perfect spare for you and fit in the carrier. If you use steel wheels you will need to carry lug nuts (rear), bolts (front) to match. I'd like to carry a full spare, but from reading the archives realize that it won't fit in the holder. Has anyone modified that area to adopt a truck/SUV model where I winch/pulley raises and lowers the spare? Cheers, Harry
