A little late to the game but here's a pic of a gauge holder/cup holder I made for my 4 spd stick shift westy.  The cup holders have some happy dollar store thick plastic short tumblers that are tapered sitting in the cutout.  I can put standard 20 oz bottle/take out cup in the space.  I would suggest a 12v outlet with a cover as things can fall into this.  The whole contraption is mounted to the heater cover that already had a doze screw holes in it.  I took this photo when I was making this, I can take a pic of it in van if anyone would like or give construction details if desired.
