Subject:Random Instant Shutdown

Hey All Here's one for ya

        A NonMech' good friend has an '89 4spd2wd H2OBxr with 217000mis ~ It
will start just fine & idle & run just fine for a Random period of

time then instantly shutdown as if the key was turned off ~ then in
most cases it will start right back up again. On the occasions that it
doesn't

start right back up I can tell that the FuelPump is not doing the
PreStartRun but then after a few tries or a short wait does come on
when Key is

turned to Start & will then FireUp&Run. I did some "GroundsCleaning"
in the EngineArea & TranyStrap yesterday, unplugged, sprayed with Elec'

cleaner & replugged many of the connectors in the EngineBay, pulled
the FuelControlRelay & sprayed its spades & socket. It seemed as
though as

time went on yesterday that each time I would FireItUp & let it idle
it would run longer ~ 1st maybe 5-10min & last couple 20min then
30-40min,

with a total of maybe 8 Idles&ShutDowns during the 4hrs I spent with
it ~ it wasn't running while I was cleaning but Before, Interspersed &
After.

While it is Idling it comes up to Temp fine (Needle ON LowHalf of LED
most of the time) & the RadFan CyclesAsNeeded. This Van has spent a

few weeks in the past month with MyFriends DailyDriverMech' (who is
not VanagonFamiliar) having its FuelFilter & AllFuelHoses replaced &
some

FrontEndWork done ~ He also experienced this SuddenShutDownSyndrome
but could not figure it out. AnyBody have any Ideas?
