The issue isn't the alcohol, it's the water. Alcohol is hygroscopic - it absorbs moisture out of the air. And moisture plus a little bit of oxygen = corrosion. With gasoline, water would settle to the bottom of our fuel tanks & at worse rust pin holes in the bottom. Now everything metal inside the fuel system is subject to corrosion. Jack, older engines are corroding inside out with E10. ask a small engine mechanic or a boat mechanic. they don't get run often or long enough to overcome the ethanol because it's in the fuel supply. as the motor sits , the vegatation derived alcohol stays at work causing damage. it's probably a conspiracy to get us out of our paid for pollutant generators and into the showroom finance loop. =(;D) VW - scene , not herd mike ________________________________ From: Rocket J Squirrel <camping.elliott@GMAIL.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, December 26, 2012 10:22 AM Subject: E15 fuel? I read that "[...] the Environmental Protection Agency has approved a new policy that will allow states to raise the blend to up to 15 percent ethanol (also known as E15), approved for use for cars and light trucks from the model year 2001 and later." There is concern that some older vehicles may be unhappy with the blend. <http://rss.slashdot.org/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~3/8mfbvPh1hvQ/story01.htm> Anyone have any idea whatsoever what running E15 might do for our engines? -- Jack "Rocket j Squirrel" Elliott 1984 Westfalia, auto trans, Bend, Ore. ----- No virus found in this message.
