And even if you could afford one or if they were to make Vanagon in
either Kombi or Doka form, you'd never be able to import it into the
states because of USDOT crash-worthiness (lack thereof) and Elack of
proper emission control specs (no OBD systems there compatible w/US
specs).  Far as I'm concerned itsa pipe dream.  Better off saving your
money and keep fixing yer 91 Doka.  Yeah I know, they'll be 20+ years
old, but hey life's tough all over and besides, consider it a labor of
love, provided of course you still have the funds to do so.
