Voltage regulators can change slightly due to temperature. As it gets colder voltage tends to go up. Orin reality voltage goes down as temperature increases. If using the van for long trips it would be better for the batteries to set voltage between 13.8 to14.2. 14.5 is an upper limit for most flooded batteries. At 14.5 volts you are above the gassing stage and promoting corrosion of the positive plates. I've posted my findings and sketched up my aux. battery wiring in this post on my blog: http://shufti.wordpress.com/2013/01/06/vanagon-my-auxiliary-battery-wiring/ alistair
