A few things I've learned about Prius cars in the last few years. there is a Vanagon guy ..great guy too, Paul Guzak, whoconverts Prius cars to plug-in. He adds a suitcase size battery in the trunk that can be charged off 110AC. Reading on a Prius yahoo group .. the early Prius's could have very expensive transmission failures ..like a 4K dollar problem. Paul told me the little gas engines go300K miles in them. Not a very sporting car to drive I hear. More of an appliance than something to really get intoI gather. Vanagons have 'class' and panache. On 1/11/2013 11:27 AM, dhanson928@gmail.com wrote: > Nah! I paid only slightly more for it in January 2006 than a Corolla cost at the time. The Corolla it replaced averaged 35 mpg. With the Prius I get 55 mpg, and the Prius is bigger. It now has 108k miles, and I have yet to spend a penny (or anything more) on repairs. At its last checkup (free at my dealer) I was told that the batteries are good for another 100k miles at least, probably considerably more. Due to its value, it has become one of the top selling cars in the U.S. And yes, it does not not pollute at nearly the rate that other vehicles do. What am I supposed to do, go around with a hangdog face decrying my lemon to make you and others who disparage it feel better? > > Good grief!! mcneely > > ---- Don Hanson <dhanson928@GMAIL.COM> wrote: >> ....also called by some the "Pious".
