So would smearing peppermint oil or similar on rubber seals keep
vermin from chewing the rubber? Would the oil harm the rubber? Seems
the cotton balls dabbed in peppermint oil need to be replaced every
few weeks.

Would something like Vaseline on rubber seals be a deterrent?

Am thinking spots like speedo cable seal.
