When my manual transmission went (the 3-4 hub, a common problem), a
similar thing happened, it felt to me like a rear wheel was binding up
briefly. Happened several times. Not long after, and I couldn't shift
into 3/4.

Do you have a manual transmission? Any change/difficulties getting it
into/out of 3rd/4th?
