Maybe this is going over ground already covered here, but I found that after I stopped using Bosch oil filters I don't get the clackety-clack because the Mann and Maile filters have a check valve that somehow prevents the lifter noise. Have others had this same experience, and does anyone have a better explanation of why this makes a difference? Boise Ted.

I use the Mann and Mehle filters that I get from online vendors, sometimes one sometimes the other. If I leave my camper parked for a while, the lifters clatter on startup. How long before they stop is a function of how long the van has been sitting.
