I only gave up on Eudora (via POP3, it wasn't very good at IMAP) a
couple of years ago. Now, I use fetchmail and procmail on my home server
to gather and sort email, then an IMAP MUA to read it (Thunderbird, mostly).

procmail will do all that Eudora filters can, and more. It has a bit of
a learning curve, though.
