Pulling the instrument cluster and removing the speedo assembly is fairly easy, but it takes nimble fingers and some patience to effect the repair. Not difficult and it gets easier when you repeat because your first fixed stopped after a few miles. Samba threads with pix are a big help on this. My third try has been holding for several thousand miles now. I found that staking/knurling the right end of the shaft where the big gear resides did it for me.And you can drive the van without the cluster, if you need to.Good luck. Stephen --- On Fri, 3/29/13, Michael Kimball <kimballmk@GMAIL.COM> wrote: From: Michael Kimball <kimballmk@GMAIL.COM> Subject: trip meter To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Date: Friday, March 29, 2013, 3:55 PM My trip meter quit working but odometer still works. any ideas?
