Hi Paul, You do not need the rattle-gun - they're a blunt tool which do not offer reliable torque. Don't believe me? Would you use a rattle-gun to tighten your spark plugs to the correct torque? See - you knew it all along really. When a torque as high as 250ft/lb is specified, it's of vital importance that it's done with tenderness. A lot of torque doesn't translate as 'hit it really hard'. Yes, it's hard to get there, but you need to get there with a smooth action and precision. Cheap ways of getting there include: - borrowing one/renting one from a local mechanic/engineering shop - buying one from a big-arse store, using it and returning it :) - phoning a friend Regards, -Dan -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Paul Rogers Sent: Sunday, 21 July 2013 5:13 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: What to buy? I already have a torque wrench that goes up to 100 ft/lbs. > > Thanx for your input, I'm trying to spend my hard earned $$ wisely.
