I've seen my fair share of dissected CIS pumps with the same commutator wear. Most of those pumps still worked but were noisy. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of David Beierl Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 5:02 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Fuel pump noise? The one I just took apart is also worn very deeply without a lot of brush wear. I thought I'd measure it. Very Interesting Indeed. What I have only looks like a seized pump. What I have is a totally irredeemably worn out pump that happens also to be seized. The depth of the wear gully in the commutator was about .035 inches. There was maybe a bare .005 inches to go before you simply ran out of copper. That is an ex-parrot I mean pump, and so is the one at Pelican Parts, and I bet so are a lot of the ones we're driving around on. Cheerful thought. Too bad I haven't a clue of this one's history, and no comparison with the one I took apart years ago where I did know the history. Yours, David
