NVC alert! Watch the end of the chase very closely. They used the tow-and-release method to aim the Charger at the gas pumps and it actually missed by inches, explosion notwithstanding. I was in USAF basic training with a guy who claimed that his dad had bought that Mustang. There's an interesting Samba thread on Vanagons on TV and in movies. There were probably only 2 or 3 old VW's as they shot each scene (of the now famous car chase) from every angle they possibly could to make it seem longer. I recall the same VW Beetle being passed at least 3, maybe 4 times.
