Belts are like tires & hoses. The industry marches on, the manufacturers
adapt their manufacturing lines to what's being manufactured today, and all
the sudden you have parts that just-almost-fit.

Heh.

For me, the simplest mental image is to picture a string cut and fit to the
inner circumference, being then strung along outer circumference. It will be
too short. Which is kind of fascinating to me since if you cut the belt and
measure.... some kind of Pretzel Logic voodoo.

On my engine, since the accessory ribbed belt routing isn't exactly stock,
using numbers from Contitech to Gates didn't seem to jibe. But that belt is
pretty thin so in hindsight, not as critical or at least not as much
difference in measuring inner/outer circumference I guess.

My gut tells me that if there were a standard in the belt industry, outer
circumference would be the rule for measure of belt "length".
