Subject:My 'new' Westfalia in Hungary

Hi to all,

I got one in Hamburg that has: high top, 1.6 diesel turbo engine, 5 speed transmission, power steering, full Westfalia interior, thermo windows. Color is burgundy. All manual everything else. I just got back from Transylvania. That place is fantastic. It’s like going back 200 years or more. Hard working people without debt, who can do almost anything for themselves. Real genuinely honest people.

There was not much climbing to do, the roads were a little poor but there was some new freeway too.

Transylvania, the size of today’s Hungary, with 700 years old Hungarian towns that were given to neighboring little Romania 90 year ago after the first world war, by the winners; France, England and the US, more than doubling Romania overnight by the stroke of a pen when the fierce Hungarian army was dismantled. The people remained close to their roots, but forced Romanization has affected the population ratio and speaking Hungarian has been forbidden. Today’s Romania is part of the European Union, but still won’t allow the Transylvanian flag to be opened on buildings. The political friction is constant and bitter. Can’t have a country without a strong army, as it shows.

Anyway, the weather was nice, the car ran great, could not be better.

I will keep the camper in Hungary for good and probably will let others use it for a fee. I might even get some more of the same for rentals.

That’s all in a nutshell. I’ll be back in the US in less than a month.

My greetings to all the members of the great club of the Vanagon.com.
Zoltan
