The starter/solenoid itself could hang up however that is rare. I would start by checking the ignition switch, wiring looking for a cross connection, or if someone added a "booster" relay for the solenoid circuit. Since you had the runaway I would consider replacing the starter due to the centrifugal damage to the armature. The started engaged for a second - then the engine bucked, and then the starter began to run away. Turning the key off made no difference. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the starter. I borrowed a hammer, and a flashlight and whacked the starter - No Joy! I've never run into this problem before. Being it was night, I couldn't do much. I still don't have my beloved Bentley, so a bit handicapped on the troubleshooting. Anyone have any idea what this could be about?? Thanks, John
