We do this on all the Westies we restore. I take the poptop to my local marine canvas/upholstery guy and he installs the hull liner. Looks very nice. Adds some insulation and sound deadening. And its mold and mildew resistant (hey... it's for boats). The paint probably would turn the fuzz into a solid surface. An option is to line the roof with boat hull liner fabric. It comes in a range of colours. I know of two vanagon owners that have done this and the result is pretty nice. I did something similar on my pop top. I didn't use hull liner fabric but rather some inexpensive carpet. It was very thin carpet, pretty close to hull liner thickness but it did not have the 2 way stretch that the hull liner stuff has. The lack of stretch did come back to bite me during the install - I didn't manage to get it on completely wrinkle free. I have some pics of my attempt here: http://shufti.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/vanagon-pop-top-canvas-swap/ Alistair > On Oct 12, 2013, at 2:44 PM, WILLIAM WITZ <pbwitz@SBCGLOBAL.NET> wrote: > > Hi all, does anyone have any advice on dyeing or painting the in side of the poptop? I bought a new tent and what to change color of roof to grey. Thanks for your help in advance. > Bill Witz 84 Westy
