I've been carrying and occasionally using my Honda Eu1000 for almost seven
years now.  And I do not recall even once being able to smell it or any
gasoline smell inside the van.
As for noise, in the middle of Death Valley yeah, you might hear it 50 or
100 yards away.  Just barely.  In every place I've ever used it the sound
was only there if you listened for it from the other side of the Westy.
