Re: quick jobs, that's true enough, Scott! I seem to forget it after not doing any maintenance for a couple months. Yep, I sprayed pblaster on it first. But I'll give the channel lock pliers route a try - I won't worry about destroying the mount as they are cheap enough, and clearly this job ain't getting done today. thanks, Peter On Sat, Nov 23, 2013 at 3:16 PM, Scott Daniel <scottdaniel@turbovans.com>wrote: > see if there is a metal part of the rubber mount that you can grab with > a pliers...like a channel lock pliers. > that's what I find in those rubber mounts.. > the nut is on a stud, that is part of a the metal end of the rubber > mount. > hold that part from spinning ..it should come apart. > > you sprayed with penetrating oil on the nut first, of course, right ? > I never touch any fastener on a vanagon without spraying some juice on it > first. > > there are no 'quick jobs' to do things really right. > Every single thing I go to do on a vanagon turns into 4 more things at > least, without exception. > The vans are 25+ years old... > that's a lot of time for corrosion and neglect to do their thing. > > Scott > > > On 11/23/2013 3:03 PM, Peter DiFalco wrote: > > Hi folks, > > I'm trying to put a new fuel pump on and my roadblock is this: the nut securing the fuel pump bracket to the rubber mount just spins in place, and it seems to be the only nut I have access to with the hand tools I have. I'm not terribly mechanically inclined so I have no idea how I'm going to get that nut off, or get the fuel pump out. Any help appreciated. This was supposed to be a quick job and I'm already losing the sunlight. :/ > > Thanks, > Peter > '89 Bluestar > > > >
