Bob,

there have been a few different dash cluster installs, notably Frank G.s install and I have pics and description of that on my blog (http://shufti.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/vanagon-frank-g-s-instrument-cluster-mod/).

That one is not flush mounted, but here is a link to a german site with a couple of more flush mounted installs (golf 3 and 4 dashes in vanagon)

http://home.arcor.de/nolan/tachokonverter/Grimm.htm

note if you look around that site you will find a converter board to help with electronic gauge installs.

now the subject of glare on windscreen - yup, i think that might be an issue. I can see a bit of light on windscreen from stock set up. the light bounces off the bottom surface of the recessed area in cluster and hits the windscreen. At first glance it is hard to believe that the angles would allow that to happen, but if you put a bit of black cloth on the lower recess area the reflection is eliminated.
