I have to agree with Loren.

I think all Eurovans are an expensive disaster waiting to happen. They are
essentially orphaned by VW, and they just want them to disappear into the
recycling yards. You'll be able to get expensive VW OEM parts for it (your
primary source for engine and transmission parts) only as long as VW chooses
to make them. Vanagons have multiple after-market suppliers, as do many
other popular old vans. Chevy/GMC Astro/Safari for one. Spend your money on
one of them.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Subject: Honest question for the group

I'm a total newbie and don't want to make a mistake. Got a chance to get a
93 MV hardtop weekender. 5 speed 5 cylinder. Had it inspected by a VW
mechanic and nothing glaringly wrong. It does have a bad gas gauge and temp
gauge and the mechanic says these are quite hard to come by and I should
plan on dealing with it for a while. I can probably get it for $5500. Since
I have only owned TDI beetle and golfs and never a van of any kind, much
less a VW, I am hard pressed to tell if this is a decent rig for simple car
camping and road tripping around the PAC NW in the spring/summer/fall. Any
advice is greatly appreciated from this community.
