Vanagonauts:
I am looking at 1985 Franken Westy for sale via Kijiji and the vendor wants to transact through an escrow agent (eConsignmentShop.com).
Apparently, eConsignementShop.com already has possession of the vehicle (on consignment) and it is being stored in one of their {franchise} warehouses in a rather remote BC community. The transaction procedure is described as follows:
1) I forward payment to eConsignementShop.com which they hold in escrow (wire transfer to their {our of country} bank account);
2) eConsignmentShop.com delivers the vehicle to the location I specify (within 1000 miles of their warehouse facility);
3) I have seven days to evaluate the vehicle and decided whether it is satisfactory;
4) a) If I decide the vehicle is all I expect it to be, eConsignmentShop.com releases payment to the seller;
b) If I conclude the vehicle is not what was advertised (not worth the purchase price), eConsignmentShop.com retrieves the vehicle
(at the sellers expense) and refunds the purchase amount to me.
Sounds simple enough ... but with more than a quarter century's experience in information security, I'm not the "e-trusting" type.
I have been trying to carry out diligence on the company itself, (eConsignment Shop, Inc. 2778 Forsyth Rd, Winter Park, Florida 32792), but to-date have been unable to find sufficient evidence to confirm whether they are a legitimate business or a scam.
Do any of you have experience - good or bad - with eConsignmentShop.com or know where I might be able to find additional information on this company?
Feel free to respond off-line as this is really a tangental Vanagon question.
