I know a bunch of us are using Gmail, so to stop messages from the list
going into the spam folder:

Settings -> Filters -> Create a new filter

to:(vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com)
Do this: Never send it to Spam

I'm not seeing messages in the spam folder, but I have seen it tell me
this filter is why the message isn't in the spam folder :o)
