I bought the 2013 version (from the MS store) as it's going to be the last one & I wanted as much update as I could get. I have not done any traveling with it, just planning & I don't see much difference. I did get my push pins onto the new default template map (New North American Map then saved as a .stt). I had to copy & paste them one at a time, it was not that hard as they knew where they had to go & I did it a state at a time and there were not that many. I did have to get help to give myself permission to change the template. "My" push pins are places (hot dog stands, national monuments, civil war battle fields, beaches, etc.) & people I don't want to miss if I'm going to be in the area. When I plan a route I can see where I am in relation to "my" places. When I loaded it on my PC I left the old version intact, since I have moved my push pins I have been using the new one instead of the old one. The old planned trips I'd saved will still load. I had the money & they were still selling it. It's done & I'm set for the next how ever many years I want to keep planning trips on my PC without being hooked up to the internet.
