Here's a write up I prepared several years ago when I did the job on my air-cooled Vanagon. http://www.vanagonauts.com/Replacing-Trans-Final-Drive-Seals229.htm -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Michael Magnani Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2014 11:27 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Manual Transmission Drive Flange Seal Hi Dean, Thanks for the info. So, just to be sure, based on your experience I assume the following to be true: No big spring behind the Drive Flange. No need to remove the Adjusting Rings. No Special Tools required other than Circlip pliers, seal puller and a method to install the new seal. Have I got that right? Many thanks. That shows it perfectly. Given my time constraints and lack of special tools, I'll be only replacing the center caps and see if that cures the leak. Do you think any of the list vendors sells the Drive Flange seals or the special tools? > Thanks again, you guys, for the great information. > Mike M
