Subject:Lost power while driving, now no start

Hello all,

The engine in my 1991 GL with a 1992 2.2 (w/ manual trans) lost power while
cruising at highway speed. No warning signs or ongoing issues that would
indicate a problem. Basically, as I was driving along, the van's engine
lost power (i.e., it felt like I took my foot of the gas and we slowed to a
stop), the motor continued to run as I slowed. Pressing the gas pedal made
no change as I guided it to the side to the road. I was in a bit of a
panic as we were on our way to the airport to catch a flight, I don't
recall if I turned the key to shut it down or if it just stopped. I did
try to restart it, the engine turned and turned but did not start. It
needed towed via AAA.

I do hear the fuel pump when turning the key to the first position. I do
have a check engine light (it did not come on prior or during the loss of
power) to check for codes however I'm not sure how to pull codes on a
non-running engine. I do have a VSS (the kind hooked up to the back of the
instrument cluster). The ignition switch was replaced a year ago. I'm
leaning toward a bad ECU. Thoughts and guidance would be very much
appreciated.
