It is 40 degrees out in Vermont. I always use 20/50 as per owners manual for a 1988 digifant engine. The warning light that goes off is located in the tachometer not the speedometer area. I would think that red light has to do with coolant not oil would that be correct.?

Coolant temperature is mid range all the time. Or is it and oil pressure issue? Read my Bentley and owners manual still no explanation.
