Sure, as long as you use the same shafts, because the shafts' lengths are
unequal, while the standard Vanagon's shafts are equal length.

I have a 1986 Vanagon Westfalia GL 2.1 L 2WD automatic.  I have a mechanic
friend who has rebuilt some CV-axles that were removed from a standard
Vanagon.  Can CV axles from a standard Vanagon be used use on an automatic
Vanagon?
