Hi Listers,
Well almost fully successful on the rear heater core exchange but just a few more tips would be appreciated.
I was able to get out on some clear dry winter roads for a drive after replacing the rear heater core.
Good news no more coolant smell coming from the rear heater when turned on.
I do, sadly, feel a slight ooze or drip coming from the bottom of the seem between the new core and the rear valve. I had also noticed that this happened before I changed the core. it first happened when I still had the old core attached but had wiggled it out of the fan assembly.
I replaced the O ring when I replaced the heater core.
I don’t want to over tighten the two bolts but I gave them a extra turn tonight.
Also, when running the van the temp gage seemed normal as the pointer just touched the bottom of the LED at center. I’m told by my driver that is the usual spot for my van in the past. Interestingly the expansion over flow tank might actually be higher then before I did the exchange. and though I had heat I thought it seemed not as hot as in the past.
So any tips on stopping the ooze or drip?
any thoughts about what I might need to do to be sure the air is not still in the system?
I was so pleased to do this job so a bit bummed about that drip.
