Hi,

Yes he painted it himself. He readily admits that it was a quick and dirty job. No window pulling etc. He allowed himself 8 hrs for the entire job. Had a bit of a hiccup with compressor between one of the coats, got a couple of runs but he doesn't mind. He has a good attitude about the van, wants to use it, with the kids, and not be worried about scratches and dents.

I looked for something other than the beer cap. I have seen on the samba folk using primer bulb from 2 stroke engine. I couldn't find anything like that and I wanted to get the dash back in that same weekend. So I gave the bottle cap a try, overnight cure of the JB weld, then some extensive testing.... I tried to get it off, no go.

Yes, only a few clips on the box. When I did my box there were more clips. I dunno why the difference.

As you might imagine, the flap foam was quite degraded. The stuff just broke up when touched. The sealing edges of the foam were already gone.

You know I do worry a little about how long the replacement foam will last. I wonder if it will degrade faster due to the heat in there.
