Thanks, Dennis.

I wondered about the switch load.  The size of the wire going to the
starter solenoid on the TDI Jetta where I got the starter was quite
substantial.  I'll sort through the Jetta TDI wiring diagram for the
wiring size and relay identification and add one to to the Vanagon to
fully protect the switch.  I shouldn't have to be concerned about the
ignition switch in the future.
