That's a side wall blow out from running at high speed with very low inflation. The sidewalls flex way too much, and get really hot run that way. The Hankook response on The Samba says the same thing. Just keep them properly inflated. Hi folks. Has anyone with these tires experienced a blow out like this ? Links to thesamba images (2012 and 2015 posts): http://tinyurl.com/qja83gc http://tinyurl.com/pn5fz35 Granted, that's two posted examples in 3 years, and who knows what the owners have done (use, inflation, tire age, storage etc.), but since I recently had 5 new Hankooks installed, I'd like to know more. I don't see manufacture date posted in that thread yet but am curious if the RA08 tire bead is sufficient for use on a Vanagon or if that tire design has changed in that or other related regard. Not trying to start an "alarmist" type thread here. Just looking for info and stats if possible.
